Light
What is light?
Imagine if there was no sun. What if there was only darkness in the world. The Sun releases a huge amount of energy to create light that emits onto the world. But even if there was no Sun, we would have things such as flashlights and lanterns. They produce light that helps us see. It is visible light to be exact. Visible light is electromagnetic radiation that is visible to the human eye.
Light is everywhere, just like life it is wherever we go. Light isn't only what we see. There is such an expression called "speed of light". It travels 299,792,458 miles per second so we are never really able to see it.
Light sources
- Sunlight
- Flashlights
- Fire
- Light bulbs (when on)
- Lanterns
Light is what helps us to see it's what we see everyday. Without light plants wouldn't be able to produce food, they are the most basic food sources for almost every animal including humans. So if plants didn't absorb any light they wouldn't produce what we need and we wouldn't be able to live.
Light isn't just bright, happy colours that help us, there are also things like lasers.
Laser is actually an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. It emits a single ray of light and travels in straight lines unlike regular light which spreads out. Lasers are useful in many things, these things are:
- repairing detached retinas
- cleaning teeth
- cutting fabric for clothes
- welding metal
